Savannah and Ben @ Weinstein Gallery

Hidee Ho happy San Franciscans...... we know you are happy because the SUN has been SHINING all week, and as those of us who live here know, that shouldn't really happen in S.F just yet...

We have some cool news to report from the SJL/ The Eye Fives camp. Savannah and Ben are playing at show at Weinstein Gallery, this Thursday, April 14th, supporting awesome singer song writer, Danny Schmidt. Want to come? It's easy. Send us an email via the contact link and let us know how many seats to reserve.

That same night, Savannah is making her t.v debut (sorta kinda) as violinist on the all new Paul Reiser Show. It's on NBC at 8.30pm. We can't vouch for it because, well, despite having played the score, we haven't actually seen a full episode :-) But the score, written by awesome Hollywood composer, Steven Argilia is really cool - tango meets slapstick and the show teasers which you can find all over the place online are pretty awesome.

enjoy the sunshine :-)

AND, if you're having pangs realizing that the next Art Murmur is still three weeks away, you can check out this awesome article in the SF Gate... and get your fill of The Eye Fives at soundcloud... click away. xo

Super Duper News

Super duper news for you, from the SJL team

Savannah will be performing at the 25th St Collective for the next 2 months as part of a very special project called “Knit-IN”.  “Knit-In’s” were inspired by Savannah’s desire to create a space and atmosphere where the community could be involved in live performance in a meaningful way. Each evening will feature live improvised soundscapes, projections, knitters and the chance for members of the public to join the performance by joining the knitting crew. All knitted proceeds from this event will be donated to Oakland charity, Elizabeth House. *You* can join in the fun by attending to listen, to knit or to spread the word about Elizabeth House and the important work it does in the community.

The 25th St collective is a fantastical space, filled with inspirational artisans who offer sustainable wears and fares to fill your every fashion and foody desire. From organic ice cream to divine scarves and recycled leather jackets, this space is really fertile ground for brilliant minds.

If you live out of town but still want to be a part of the event, you can send in knitted or crocheted squares which will be transformed into beautiful blankets by the K2tog knitters.

collaborate, create, share the love.

Sleepless in Brisvegas

Brisbane Album Update...

Hard copies of 'Knitting Songs" will be available at ROCKINGHORSE RECORDS from Tuesday 23rd November. It's incredibly heartening to find that independent record stores are still flourishing in Australia!

Savannah plays the radio tomorrow, Wednesday 17th Nov! Tune in to 98.9fm  at 1pm to hear her live-to-air interview and performance.

Wow. Cool and unexpected news to report today.... Savannah's "Bitch"video film clip has been nominated for the RAGE top 50 awards...(for those of you who don't live in Australia, RAGE is a music video channel that plays on the ABC). Huge congratulations to Traci Goudie and Patrick Hubrik from Bird Machine Bird who directed and produced the clip.  You can vote "Bitch" into the top 50 via the link below... sorry it's not a pretty button, our web resources are a bit lofi... it'll get you there all the same.

Sleepless in Brisvegas......

Howdy folks :-) I've landed in Australia with a peculiar case of jet lag. It wakes me up at the very un-rockstar hour of 4am every morning and won't let me sleep again until about midnight. Why is this a good thing? Well, I have a lot to do and not sleeping is actually kind of great for completing projects. That and the world is quiet at 4am. I loike it.

My band in Brissie is totally, competely and indisputably awesome. Kathryn McKee is on 'cello, Shenton Gregory and Dave McGuire are on lead, Adrain Mauro is on general awesomeness, tinklies and bass, Beck Flatt is on fat grooves and Silas Plamer is on keys. Bliss!! I've dubbed them 'The Irreverent Orchestra". Our next show is Nov 19th at the Powerhouse, 6-7pm, it's absolutely free and you should really come out and hang with us.

In other news, I've been arranging and recording strings for some awesome Nashville songwriters.. Mitzi Dawn, Coles Whalen and Jill King. They all have or will have records out in the near future and you can check them out via the links page.

My musician highlight of this week is Shenton Gregory. He's a phenomenal musician and inspiring human. See him play one of the numerous instruments he's proficient on if you're kicking around the net or happen to be in Brisvegas.

Happy week.

Knitting Songs U.S Release, July 27th

Howdy, folks. Release date has finally arrived and with it come some fun website pressies.

The first five people to review 'Knitting Songs' on itunes will get a handmade pressie. How do you get your mittens on such a thing? Go to the goodies page, click on the itunes icon, buy the album, review it on itunes, send me an email via the form on the contact page telling me you have just reviewed the album and I'll mail you a thank you pressie. It's o.k, you can be honest, you can be brief or effusive - I'll still send you a present :-)

Yay. Brown paper packages arriving in the mail.........

The San Francisco live launch of the album will be announced this week. It is going to be slightly unusual in terms of location, line up and delivery but I am really excited to share that with you soon... just a few more puzzle pieces to put in place before we announce the details.

Enjoy the full moon!

P.S, are you aware, U.S comrades, that QWERTY is a valid word in Websters Scrabble Dictionary?

Films and launches and no more sitting on my haunches......

Hi. How are you? Are you feeling Mercury in retrograde this week? I was. I was blaming her for a very blue streak of mood on the weekend. I had decided not to travel, not to start my German class, not to emerge without a hat on (retrograde=terrible hair) but then, something happened. The telephone rang. Mercury and I made up. I drank some water and slept for more than 5 hours and, now I am liking this little spell of retrograde very much.

NEWS!!!! I have some for you.  Firstly, thanks to Goddess, Annie Bacon, and a stellar crew of musicians and humans, the Folk Opera is recorded. Yipppeeeee! The recording process was really quite incredible. We recorded everything live (ie. at the same time) a chorus, bass, violin, uke and 4 lead vocals. A group of very talented and kind hearted friends took over the running of "the tower" so that the Folk Opera cast could focus purely on performing. It was an amazing community effort - we had telephone operators, a chef, a Jeremy and a super fanstic sound crew and I'm pretty sure all of that love and community will come through on the recorded product. Click on the link below to find out how you can get your hands on a copy.

Secondly, I am playing violin on Fiora's original score for an upcoming Aussie movie, Scab Girl Assylum,  whose content and story are both moving and profoundly important.
Thirdly, I am releasing "Knitting Songs".... it's coming and it's getting increasingly more exciting by the day.
